PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 CUSHION INSTALLATION
A. Inspect all subflooring to insure it is clean, dry, and secure before installation proceeds. Use white latex subfloor filler as needed.
B. Cushion shall be installed in the longest possible lengths. Cushion seams shall not be directly under carpet seams, and shall be at right angles to them. When this is not possible, trim the first width of cushion or carpet so that all carpet seams will fall several inches to one side of any cushion seam.
C. Starting from a chalk line or a straight wall, fold back cushion and apply adhesive using coverage rate and open time as recommended by the approved adhesive manufacturer. The preferred type of adhesive is a permanent soft set. However a pressure sensitive adhesive may be used if future removal is a concern.
D. Carefully fold the precut pieces of cushion back into the adhesive after the required open time recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.
E. All cushion shall be smooth, flat, secure, and seams tightly butted. Use of cushion seam tape is optional.
F. Finish trimming cushion around walls, door jambs, and other detail work, as needed.
3.02 CARPET - CUTTING & SEAMING
A. When more than one width of carpet is required, precut the carpet to the proper length allowing for flash up at walls and through doorways.
B. Position first two pieces of carpet, and cut seam by row cutting and trace cutting to it for the second piece in a manner that will produce a tight, uniform seam requiring only a minimal amount of adjusting with a knee kicker.
**** OR ****
C. If row cutting the carpet for seaming is impractical, use a chalk line the entire length to mark your cut on the secondary backing side of both pieces of carpet to be seamed. Then proceed with the aid of a straight edge in cutting the carpet to produce a tight, uniform seam.
D. The preferred method of seaming the carpet is with a non-releasable backed low profile hot melt seaming tape, before application of adhesive to cushion.
**** OR ****
E. If the carpet seams are of the length that makes it impractical to apply hot melt seaming tape before the application of adhesive to the cushion, it can be inserted after the first width of carpet is folded back into the adhesive.
F. It is recognized that some border and inset work can not be easily seamed with hot-melt tape. In which case all seams must be carefully sealed with a carpet seam sealer adhesive/cement.
G. Apply an approved manufacturer permanent soft-set adhesive to the surface of the cushion according to their guidelines, paying close attention to coverage rates and open times.
H. Finish trimming flush to walls, door jambs etc., and repeat the proceeding steps for addition widths of carpet.
I. Use a carpet tube or a 30 lb. or less roller to push out any air and for adequate adhesive transfer to carpet backing.
J. When cove base is used, only install the type that has a toe.
K. Bar traffic on finished installation for 12 hours.
3.03 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Field inspection will be performed under provisions of section (01400.) (01410.)
3.04 CARE & CLEANING
A. Clean and vacuum carpet surface.
B. Always use chair pads under office chairs and in extremely high pivotal areas, such as bank teller cages.
